Digital technologies are all around us without us even
knowing they are there. This module helped open my eyes to my daily rituals
that have become habitual, showing the impact of digital technologies in my
lifestyle. For example:
I woke up to my alarm.
We then made porridge for breakfast using my thermomix with
preset heat settings, mixing and timing that beeped when it was ready.
My children and I listened to music from a digital radio
station whilst we ate our breakfast.
When I arrived at my son’s kindy we used a digital keypad to
enter through the gate.
I then checked my shopping list on my phone at the shops,
before going through the self service to pay for my items using a pre-programmed
computer system.
Before finally checking my emails after returning home.
This was probably a short snippet of the digital
technologies I came in contact with, but it gives you the idea!
So the big question is how are these digital technologies
designed so that they benefit my life this way? What is the bigger picture such
as how can they help people with disabilities, providing solutions for
developing countries?
Obviously this eye opening task opens your mind a lot further to WHAT already exists and WHERE it can now be taken.
